GHREB's Mission

The founding members of the Greater Harlem Real Estate Board, Inc. came together to support each other at a time when it was almost impossible for African Americans to generate a successful livelihood in a predominantly white real estate industry. Their main mission was to unite black real estate professionals conducting business in Harlem and surrounding communities, disseminate vital information to all members, promote and engage in activities that would benefit the members and community and increase the earning capacity of all members.

Today, GHREB membership is comprised of real estate professionals from every ethnic background, united to provide service to the Greater Harlem and surrounding communities. As we continue and expand the mission of our founders, we have advanced the following goals:

  • Support our members with the knowledge and tools necessary to maintain the highest professional and ethical standards of practice in the real-estate industry;
  • Serve as a trusted resource for the public to meet all of its real-estate needs;
  • Provide affordable housing to residents of the communities we serve by
    • collaborating with our parent association, the National Association of Real Estate Brokers, Inc, to ensure democracy in housing and
    • securing funding from both private and public funding sources to develop and increase housing stock;
  • Close the home ownership gap between African-American and other minority communities and the White communities through education and advocacy.

In order to continue meeting these goals, our organization welcomes members from all sectors of the real estate industry.
